What can I say, the Claridge Icon is currently Ottawa’s tallest condo building. And if you know Ottawa, you know how long overdue this is.
First off, the location: on the corner of Preston St and Carling Ave. There’s an LRT train station 1 block away, so you can access the whole city. The arboretum and Dow’s Lake offer tons of great outdoors activities, from bike paths, to hiking, to canoeing & paddleboarding, and skating on the canal in the wintertime. You’ve got some incredible restaurants all along Preston Street (Mati, Moonroom, Giovannis, etc). The Civic Hospital is a few blocks west, and the new Civic Hospital (not built yet) is scheduled to go in just across the street. All of this adds up to one of the best, most convenient locations in the city.
As for the building, the Icon is truly a very nice building. I never thought I’d say this, but the layouts are quite functional, attractive, and modern (yes, we’re all a little mind-blown at this one). The spaces are more open and brighter than a typical Claridge condo. Floor to ceiling glass, and overall a lot more window space, which equals better views, brighter spaces, and a more enjoyable living space. The finishings also look like they’ll be impressive, but again, that will depend on what the buyer has chosen, so….
And if you love breath-taking views, and who doesn’t, this one is 45 storeys with all-glass units. I highly recommend a northwest corner unit 😀
