Looks like Ottawa has decided to allow buildings to be taller than the Peace Tower afterall. The city has approved Richcraft’s new development for the tallest condo building, called ‘The Sky’. It won’t be for awhile though, as Richcraft says that it may be 5 years before they start construction due to a slow condo market around here.
Being that I’m a bit of a condo critic (ok, a serious condo critic :)), I have to say that I’m somewhat optimistic about this development. From what I could see from the news clip on CBC’s site, it looks like this may be a Gluckstein designed building. While I don’t know that much about Gluckstein’s design firm, it does appear that they are one of the few designers who are able to think outside the traditional, stale condo box that is ever-present in Ottawa. Let’s hope it’s a good one
